BOARD MEMBERS

Harry Ngata

Harry Ngata travelled to the FIFPro conference in Johannesburg in 2004 where the fledgling NZPFA became a full member. As well as captaining the Football Kingz in the Australian NSL, Harry has played 37 internationals for the All Whites, including matches at the 1999 Confederations Cup in Mexico. Harry is recognised as a true football leader – and has spent time helping future champions as a Sports Ambassador for SPARC.
   

Vaughan Coveny

Vaughan Coveny is one of New Zealand’s longest-serving All Whites, having made his debut in 1992 against Fiji. Vaughan moved to Australia in 1992 where he played for the Melbourne Knights and Wollongong before moving to his current club, South Melbourne. Vaughan has achieved considerable success with South Melbourne, including playing at the World Club Championships in Brazil in 2000, where he played against Manchester United. Vaughan currently shares the record for the most goals scored for New Zealand.
   

Ivan Vicelich

Ivan Vicelich is one of four Board Members in the All Whites’ 50 Caps Club. Hailing from Auckland, Ivan has played for both Waitakere and Central as well as the Football Kingz in the Australian National Soccer League. Since signing with Roda JC in 2001, Ivan has made more than 100 appearances for the Dutch club. Ivan was named New Zealand International Player of the Year in 2002.
 

Ryan Nelsen

Ryan Nelsen is only the second New Zealand player to play in the English Premier League. Originally from Christchurch, Ryan attended Greensboro College in North Carolina and Stanford University, California before joining DC United. A two-time Major League All-Star, Ryan moved to Blackburn Rovers in January 2005, where he cemented his place as a quality defender. Ryan’s achievements in 2005 include starting in an FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal and captaining Blackburn in their FA Cup replay against Burnley. Ryan is the current All Whites’ captain and is a proud supporter of junior football.
   

Simon Elliott

Simon Elliott is a six season veteran of America’s Major League Soccer. After graduating with a degree in history from Stanford University, Simon played for Los Angeles Galaxy for five years before moving to Columbus Crew in 2005. As well as being named LA’s Most Valuable Player in 2000, Simon helped the Galaxy to its first league title in 2002. He has earned over 50 caps for the All Whites, including matches at the 2003 Confederations Cup in France.
   

Noah Hickey

Noah Hickey has recently retired from professional football after most recently playing for the New Zealand Knights in the A-League. Hickey was a member of the All Whites team at the 2003 Confederations Cup as well as winning a championship in Finland with Tampere United.  Named New Zealand's Young Player of the Year in 1997, Hickey has maintained an interest in the junior game and the profile of football in New Zealand.
   

Danny Hay

Danny Hay became just the second New Zealander to play in the English Premier League (after Lee Norfolk) when he debuted for Leeds United in 1999/2000. The inaugural captian of the Auckland-based New Zealand Knights, Danny also played for Walsall FC in England and Perth Glory in Australia as well as Waitakere back in Auckland. Danny has made 34 appearances for the All Whites and came out of retirement in 2005 to captain the side.

 

Andrew Scott-Howman - Solicitor

Andrew Scott-Howman is a litigation partner at leading law firm Bell Gully. Together with Harry Ngata, Andrew was the driving force in the establishment of the NZPFA. Andrew has extensive experience with professional sports in New Zealand, having been the solicitor for the both the Rugby and Cricket Players’ Associations since their inceptions. He has played a vital part in three collective bargaining negotiations and was integral to achieving a resolution to rugby’s 2003 World Cup bonus dispute.
 

Helen Quirke - Consultant

Helen Quirke is qualified in fields of both law and statistics. Helen worked as a bookie for the TAB for five years before becoming a consultant to the Rugby Players’ Association and NZPFA. A lifelong sports fanatic, Helen has experience in sports administration and coaching at grass-roots level. She has coached junior football at club and representative level, and played and managed both New Zealand Universities Women’s side and senior club football.
